A date to remember!

3 minute read

Roger’s well known at Norley Hall.

Formally a Reverend, he’s taken on a similar role within the home, daily he supports residents, runs services and even makes families feel at ease by getting to know them and their loved ones.

On Roger’s services, one resident said: “It’s the first time I feel like I can participate without limitations. Roger’s sessions feel like a place where we all belong.”

He’s met a lot of people along the way, and visitors often ask the question on their way out: “Was that Reverend Driver?”

Roger’s a great example of what you put in; you get out. He’s not short of friends and last month he was visited by a special one, Jean.

“I’ve known Jean, and her late husband, since 1966. I conducted their wedding in 1970 – 55 years ago!

“I got them a £7 sledgehammer for their wedding present, it was on David’s list!”

Roger Driver, Resident at Norley Hall Care Home

Settling down for a catch-up, they instantly started to reminisce about the good and the bad, their families and friends and of course how Jean met her husband all those years ago!

It’s been some time since they both saw each other, but the connection has always been there as they purred over a tray of Norley’s finest sandwiches.

“It was 2011 since we last saw each other, we’ve been in touch all the 55 years!

“I knew Roger had moved here because he’d given me his new address. And my son, Matthew, is a Postman in Wigan – he’s delivered Roger’s post quite a lot!

“Matthew dropped a parcel for Roger and asked how he was, the Receptionist said I could come and see him. And with it being so close to the anniversary we thought let's go for it.”

Jean Arnold

Norley’s Activity Coordinator, Lorraine, helped set up their reunion which brought back countless memories for the pair. We hope it isn’t left so long next time!
