Rossendale Borough Council has granted planning permission for the expansion of Lavender Hills Care Home and the addition of extra care apartments, marking the creation of a unique care village in Ramsbottom.
Millennium Care will develop the state-of-the-art Porritt Care Village on their Stubbins Vale Road site. This development will significantly enhance the support available to the region’s elderly population.
The approved plans include a new 48-bed care home, Porritt Care Home, which will be built alongside the existing Lavender Hills Care Home. The new facility will provide advanced levels of dementia care, addressing a critical need in the community.
In addition to the care home, the development will feature four extra care apartments and communal facilities designed to benefit both residents and the broader community. The integration of these facilities will create the Porritt Care Village, a comprehensive care environment unique to the area.
Lavender Hills, currently ranked as the number one care home in Ramsbottom by carehome.co.uk, offers respite, residential, and early-stage dementia care.
The addition of Porritt Care Home and the extra care apartments will ensure continuity of care for residents as their needs evolve, allowing them to remain in a familiar and supportive environment.
Porritt Care Home will adopt the household model of care, drawing on successful practices from other Millennium Care Group homes. This modern approach, which has led to improvements in residents' life expectancy at the Group's Worthington Lake facility in Standish Care Village, emphasises person-centred, non-pharmacological care and the therapeutic use of nature.
The development also addresses a critical issue in elderly care, male isolation. Porritt Care Home will include a dedicated male-only floor, providing specialised support for 12 residents.
