Bagpipes on Burns Night!

2 minute read

Lavender Hills celebrated Burns Night in style and even had a special guest, Mick Piotrowski the bagpiper!

Burns supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns, the author of many Scots poems. Events are normally held on or near the poet's birthday, 25th January, known as Burns Night.

Mick Piotrowski kindly offered to come into the home to play for our residents after Activity Coordinator, Abi, made an appeal on social media.

Mick, a retired soldier and policeman, went to the Royal Edinburgh Tattoo and became captivated by the bagpipes so decided to learn to play. He played everyone in the home a six-song set, and it was such a joyful and unique experience for everyone.

“I have enjoyed many Burns Nights but few as much as this one with our live piper playing to us and a delicious meal of haggis, mashed neeps, and tatties prepared but our wonderful chefs!”

Resident Jane

“Bagpipes are very close to our heart in our family and that was a truly wonderful afternoon to share with my Mum. Mum even became emotional at one point listening to him."

Nicola, Family Member

Staff, residents, and family members all enjoyed the celebration and everyone was even treated to a wee dram (a shot of whiskey)! What more could you ask for?
