Lavender Hills hikes for Parkinson's UK

3 minute read

Lavender Hills has pledged to walk 5km a month with residents to raise awareness for charities of their choice as part of a walk-a-thon campaign.

The team opted to back Parkinson’s UK as their preferred charitable organisation.

Parkinson's disease is a brain disorder that causes uncontrollable movements, such as shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination.

“I recognise that residents love the outdoors and as a team, we encourage staff to join residents’ activities and come up with new, innovative ideas to support the well-being of everyone in the home.

“We chose Parkinson’s UK because it’s Parkinson’s month and we want our residents with the disease to feel supported and valued in everything that we do.”

Kala Morton, Home Manager at Lavender Hills Care Home

On April 11th, the team began their walk-a-thon campaign and managed to walk 1.5km of their goal along Tottington Lines.

Their target distance is now firmly insight following a 2km trek through Waterfoot’s Railway Tunnels. For support, the team reached out to family and friends to join them.

“It was just what the doctor ordered! It was so nice to get out with nice people.”

Peter, resident at Lavender Hills Care Home
