Last week, Lavender Hills welcomed local Labour MP Andy MacNae to their home.
Home Manager Kala Morton hosts monthly coffee mornings with residents, providing a space to discuss changes they’d like to see in the home or activities they’d like to do more often. These conversations inspired Kala to reach out to local organisations and individuals on behalf of the residents, inviting them to visit the home.
Last week’s visit provided residents with a valuable opportunity to share their concerns with Andy regarding the NHS. Topics discussed included challenges with hospital transport, difficulties in obtaining appointments, and long GP waiting lists.
The MP’s visit was the second following these meetings, with the first being a palliative nurse. Kala has also connected with the Blind Society in response to a request from one of the residents.
Andy listened to the residents’ questions and concerns, stating, “It’s my job to take all of these issues back to Parliament.”
One of the residents, Maureen, a former nurse, also shared her positive experiences of working in the NHS, offering a heartfelt perspective. While Andy acknowledged the current challenges facing the National Health Service, he emphasised that we, as a country, should also take pride in the NHS’s successes.
