Last week we held a public consultation to announce our innovative plans to build a £2m intergenerational nursery at its Standish Care Village on Chorley Road. This meaningful project aims to create a thriving hub for intergenerational engagement, providing exceptional childcare for staff, residents’ families, and the wider Standish community.
Millennium Care invited the local community to Albert’s restaurant on School Lane to share their views on the nursery plans and the event provided an opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions, and provide feedback.
Local residents expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the need for additional childcare provision in the area to meet the growing demand from new housing estates and a rising population.
The 40-place nursery, designed in a forest school-style approach, will be a central feature of the Standish Care Village. It will offer a secure outdoor space nestled in nature, providing opportunities for children to connect with the environment and learn through play.
Millennium Care has a strong commitment to intergenerational care, with all of our Wigan care homes actively collaborating with local schools, nurseries, and local groups. This includes our own mum and baby group which runs once a week at Worthington Lake Care Home.
By bringing together people of different ages, we believe it can create a more inclusive and fulfilling community.
The next step is to submit for planning permission from the local authority.
