Norley Hall changed my mind...
Skye Anderton, 17 and a student at Wigan and Leigh College studying Health and Social Care completed her first-year work placement at Norley Hall Care Home.
With aspirations to become a paramedic, a rewarding and exciting career where no two days are the same. She chose Norley Hall to complete her 25-hour work placement and gain experience in a care setting.
Looking to learn as much as possible, Skye quickly got involved in activities, chatting with residents, and learning all about the procedures in place that form the resident’s daily life.
Not falling short of things to do, Skye really enjoyed visiting the music museum with Activity Coordinator Julia and resident Pat. She described it as insightful as she was unaware that they go out on day trips weekly.

“My time here is going well, I’ve learnt so much already and built a few relationships with residents. I find it very homely, and I’d recommend the home.
“Norley Hall has changed my mind on care homes. I didn’t expect a salon and a coffee shop, I was just expecting people to sit about!
“Staff have been really welcoming too, they’ve been helpful and supportive.
“I think this experience has helped me massively understand how to handle elderly patients and how to be more cautious, how to communicate better and how to help them.
“I came in with an open mind and I was blown away by the number of various jobs that are available in a care home. I had no idea Activity Coordinators were here, it’s really good and great to see residents are constantly engaged and have something to look forward to.”
Skye has gained invaluable experience at Norley Hall and would happily recommend completing work placements in the home.
