The Standish Care Village hosted its first Dementia & Child-Friendly Fireworks Display this Bonfire Night.
Nearly 500 people attended the event, gathering around the bonfire to watch the low-noise fireworks and enjoy a BBQ, hotpot, and hot drinks provided by Lakeside and Worthington Lake Care Homes.
Millennium Care is dedicated to supporting residents’ well-being, and since many people with dementia can be sensitive to loud sounds, it was a priority for us to ensure the fireworks display was low-noise. Loud noises can be distressing not only for those with dementia but also for individuals with other noise sensitivities, such as autism. Additionally, with Standish Care Village situated close to nature, it was important for us to respect the local wildlife by choosing reduced-noise fireworks.
The two homes raised a combined total of over £550 for their residents’ funds, which has been matched by the company to total over £1100 which will go back into the homes’ activities budgets, helping to create memorable experiences for the villages’ residents.
The Standish Care Village is home to Lakeside and Worthington Lake Care Homes, with a third addition, Langtree Care Home, set to open in Spring 2025.
