"The time had come when my stepfather could no longer care for our mother at home, so we had to start making plans to look for a new ‘home’ for our mum. Due to Mum's progressing dementia, certain homes could not take her, but Brookdale was different. We had many meetings with the management to discuss our mum's needs and the scenarios of what would happen if her dementia goes to a stage where they couldn’t manage her, but they were open and honest all the way along. Mum has a new family now, the carers are her new family, and sometimes she doesn’t recognise us at all. When you get over this hurdle, you will accept the changes a lot easier. To see her happy face, makes you realise, that she’s in the best place. The care home is clean, there is no clinical smell in it, and there are many activities happening, which is great to see. The food looks very well prepared and appropriate for residents with needs, and daily treats are still given out, which is a nice touch."
